Bat City Review is published annually. Please submit your work via our online submissions manager. You can access the submissions manager by clicking here. We accept and read submissions from June 1 to November 15, with responses sent primarily in late autumn.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Contributors receive a copy of the issue in which their work appears as compensation. Individual rights revert to authors upon publication. Before submitting, you may want to familiarize yourself with an issue of Bat City Review.

FICTION

The editors at Bat City Review hope to be consistently surprised by the writers who submit to us. A team of readers and a large editorial board evaluate each story, which means we do not have a particular aesthetic other than quality.

We want you to make us ecstatic to read your words.

We are by and large a literary publication, but we believe there is a place for genre elements in literary fiction (Jonathan Lethem's Motherless Brooklyn comes to mind). It is easier for us to publish works of 25 pages or less, but we are not opposed to publishing longer works as long as the writing sings. If you send us a novel excerpt it must be self-contained. If you have a novella, please query us before sending it.
